On December 12, 2010, the Southeastern Conference executive committee appointed Barbara Davis to serve as associated superintendent of Education for the Southeastern Conference. She assumes of Carol Byrd, who was recently appointed to serve as superintendent following the death of Elisa Young.
A native of Jamaica, Davis holds a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with ESOL Endorsement and an M.S. in Pre/K Primary Education with Gifted Endorsement from Barry University, located in North Miami, Fl. At the time of her appointment, Davis was serving as the principal of the Bethel S.D.A. Elementary School in Florida City.
She will continue to serve as principal of Bethel for the remainder of the academic school year.
“Being appointed to serve as associate superintendent is very humbling. Knowing that God has chosen me to help fulfill the mission of educating the students of the Southeastern Conference not only for this life but for eternity, I will not take it lightly,” said Davis. “I sincerely hope that my contribution to the Education department of Southeastern will be beneficial to all students, parents, teachers and principals.”
Davis is married to George Davis and has two sons, Michael and Marlon. She is the CEO and Co-founder of Hand of Hope Ministries International Inc., an organization that is dedicated to ministering to the poor and needy. Each summer, through her organization, she, along with her husband, dedicates one week to do missionary work outside of the United States.
