Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, Senior Pastor of the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church, will be inducted into the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Preachers Collegium of Scholars. Dr. Byrd will join a class of forty notable Pastors, Ministers, and Bishops for the 22nd Board of Preachers and Scholars Ceremony on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 11:00 am.

Byrd will join other Seventh-day Adventist Ministers who have received this prestigious honor, which include Elder C. E. Bradford, Elder E.E. Cleveland, and Elder Walter Pearson.

Morehouse College will also host a week of events in remembrance of the death of civil rights pioneer and Nobel Peace Prize winner, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  On April 4, the 40th anniversary of his death, Morehouse will hold an “Anniversary Convocation” and will induct its first class of the MLK Jr. International Board of Renaissance Leaders: Kent Amos, Bill Duffy, Reuben Cannon, Phillip Emeagwali, William R. “Billy” Martin, Raymond McGuire, R. Donahue Peebles, Congressman Charles Rangel, Michael V. Roberts, Blair Underwood and Keith Wyche.

Additionally, on April 4, 2008 the public is invited to attend “Adventist Night,” a special worship service on the campus of Morehouse College in the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel beginning at 7:00 p.m.  This initiative serves to promote positive Christian fellowship among area Adventist Churches and other community fellowships in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.

You may not hear from me, but I am certainly following your ministry. From Deliverance, to Testimony, and now. I am so proud of you and your accomplishments. As you would always tell us while you were still in the seminary at Andrews University, "To whom much is given, much is required. Those who stand for nothing, fall for anything." You are a man of your word and God has annointed you and found favor in you. May He continue to richly bless you, your family and all your future endeavors. Congratulations on your induction. Sherita

Pastor Byrd I just want you to remember who got you primed and gave you your first great start--SOUTH COLUMBIA SDA CHURCH. WE will never forget your vision, passion and love for us. Dear Pastor Byrd (Carlton): We are very proud of you and thankful to God for allowing your ministry to be blessed to this extent. Keep trusting God and allowing Him to keep you humble and close to Him, and He will continue to take you places you've never dreamed. God bless Danielle and the girls also because behind every great man is a greater woman . . . smile. When we're down your way we will visit. Give our love to Uncle Bob (Woodfork) and take care. We love you all. Sincerely, Your sisters in Christ, Joan Elayne and Judi (and Erica, Ashley and Aryn).

To God Be the glory for his magnificant wonders. Once upon a time adventist minister would remove themselves from being apart of events that did not include SDA, but times have changed and I thank God that his people are being looked upon as positive role models for people who are not adventist. All this is another way that we can be a witness to God's people in these last days. Carlton have blossomed into a well rounded young man and I do believe he is allowing God to lead him. Congratulations and may you continue to allow God to use you as his instrument.
