The goal remains the same, but the growth is phenomenal.
Since its inception in 2005, the Pure Reality retreat has nearly doubled to the point where Camp Kulaqua could soon struggle to contain it.
The goal is to reinforce God’s plan for our young people, which is for them to worship Him with their whole being, while preserving their temples for marriage.
The growth – two years ago the initial retreat was held with around 100 young people at the Embassy Suites hotel in Miami. This year, more than 400 young people are expected at this life-transforming retreat outside of Gainesville, Fla., from March 30 until April 1.
The planning has expanded to accommodate, as well. Preparations for 2007 began soon after the 2006 retreat ended. Lauldi Nedd, Dominique Diambois, and Donnakaye Scarlett, who were inspired to create the program, had to think big.
More than $68,000 was needed to ensure the retreat would be a success. The solution? A concert held at the North Miami Beach Performing Arts Center on Feb. 18 featuring such well-known gospel artists Michael and Regina Winans, Lisa-Page Brooks and Ordained Praise from Orlando.
“The goal is to make sure all our young people can afford to attend Pure Reality” Diambois said at Tabernacle after an AY meeting.
“Our young people” has expanded as far North as Georgia as applications continue to flood in. The Southeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has the retreat on its website, as well as area churches throughout the region.
“Pure Reality is a program the conference supports 100 percent,” Pastor Willie Taylor, Southeastern Conference President said last year. “Our young people should always come first.”
Apparently there are a slew of volunteers who also believe in this ministry. Not only will they donate their time, as mentors, chaperones and counselors, but they will pay their way up there to give the young people a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. The relationships formed at Camp Kulaqua will continue to grow even after their return home.
For those who are not familiar, Pure Reality ministry promotes the biblical principles for sexual integrity and the exposure of Satan's strategies for entrapment. You can't afford to miss this event. The retreat caters to youths from ages 12 to young adult. For further information, visit the organization’s website at www.purereality4u.org.
