On February 26, 2006, the Lighthouse SDA Church celebrated its 20th Anniversary. It seemed like only yesterday that the torch of Lighthouse SDA church was lit; fulfilling the dream of a few devoted members who were determined to spread the gospel. But there they were 20 years later celebrating another anniversary.
Under the leadership of Pastor Lloyd Burrowes the Lighthouse members, former pastors and friends gathered on Friday night for a thanksgiving and praise service. Soul-stirring music filled the air as the church’s first pastor, Pastor David Long, pastor of the Patmos Chapel SDA church in Orlando, Fl, made his way to the pulpit. He admonished the members to not only reminisce about the past, but also look toward the future.
Sabbath morning, the members traveled back in time to the birth of the congregation and honored the early pioneers. W.L. Taylor, President of the Southeastern Conference, delivered words of faith. He reminded the members of the Bible’s enduring power.
“The Bible has been torn, flushed, burned, misinterpreted, misquoted and hidden, but it’s still with us today” stated Taylor. After which, he led the congregation in a song of praise. “I sing because I’m happy,” the members sang with gusto. “ I sing because I’m free. His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me!”
On Sunday, the weekend came to a close with a banquet that was held at the Signature Grand Hotel. It was a celebration that the members will never forget, and the dawning of a new day. “With God as our leader,” stated one member. “We will continue to shed beams of light for another 20 years.”
