I had the privilege of speaking with Tanya Wiggins, daughter of Martha Walker who is a faithful member and Pathfinder Director of Mt. Sinai SDA Church in Orlando FL.

Her family, five generations strong, has been coming to camp meeting since it was a part of South Atlantic Conference.  Tanya’s grandmother, Mabel Lewis used to be the organist of camp meeting during those days.

Martha Walker was born in Gainesville and is one of twelve children.  She is the wife of Elder Donald Walker, former treasurer and the first accountant of SEC.

Tanya has fond memories of coming to camp meeting and being baptized in the lake.  Swimming and fishing was also done in that very lake.  The Youth Pavilion was called the Main Pavilion and the youth services took place under a tent where the playground is located. “It was always a treat to go to the youth tent every evening”, says Tanya. Tanya has one brother, Daryl Lewis and two stepsisters, Donna Polite and Ellyne Williams.

The camp meeting tradition has continued with Tanya’s daughters, Laurin Nicole and Mariah Simone. The entire family comes to camp meeting every year but this year is the first time that Tanya decided to stay the full ten days so her daughters can enjoy the camp meeting experience.  Tanya and her entire family enjoy camp meeting for the uplifting spiritual experience and will continue to keep the tradition alive for generations to come.
